    Description

    DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

    • The Assistant Director supervises the employees in the following laboratory sections or job descriptions: Laboratory Support Services, Courier, and Send outs. Assists the Laboratory Director in planning, directing, and coordinating other laboratory duties. Participates in PI plan.

    SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the Director of Pathology

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    • Interviews applicants for support services positions.
    • Knowledgeable about PI activities.
    • Knowledgeable about CAP Standards and other regulatory agencies.
    • Processes payroll in MTA as needed.
    • Ability to compose graphs, charts, and statistical analysis.
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customer, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
    • Assists Lab Director in preparation of budgets.
    • Assists lab Director in maintaining lab budget.
    • Assists lab Director in maintaining 100% productivity.
    • Developing staff through team concept and demonstrates a high level of motivation and enthusiasm among staff members.
    • Demonstrates creativity and innovation and continually encourages employees to seek ways to improve operations.
    • Prepares schedule for support service employees.
    • Achieves the highest standard of clinical performance consistent with allocated resources.
    • Supervises and manages staff in Laboratory Support Services, Courier, and Send outs.
    • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of Support Staff, Courier and Send outs.
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
    • Coaches support service employees as needed.
    • Assists lab Director in retention of staff.
    • Communicates issues in regard to safety, patients, and/or uncomplicated tasks to peers. Supervisors, and subordinates as appropriate.

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor degree in Medical Technology
    • Minimum five years laboratory experience, two years supervisory experience. Alternative Masters Degree in Science or Health Administration.
    • National certification- MT (ASCP) or equivalent, Louisiana State license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist- Generalist is preferred.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common specific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
    • Basic computer skills.

    Physical Demands/Work Environment

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear.
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the student may be at risk for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and tuberculosis.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
    • Mental competence and alertness, dexterity and accuracy of physical movements; clear, concise, pleasant speaking abilities; accurate hearing is essential; visual acuity is a must; stability of emotional make up is essential.
