The Assistant Director of Regional Recruitment serves as a key leader within the undergraduate admissions team, with primary responsibility for supervising a team of 2 admission counselors who are regionally based (with the possibility of growth to more regional team members). This role supports the strategic planning, execution, and evaluation of recruitment efforts designed to attract and enroll a talented, diverse incoming class at Colorado Mesa University.

In addition to managing their own recruitment territory, the Assistant Director provides daily guidance, mentorship, and professional development support to the admission counselor team. They assist in the implementation and adjustment of the overall first-year recruitment strategy, ensuring that institutional enrollment goals are met. Responsibilities include overseeing team travel planning, reviewing application evaluation processes, setting team priorities, and supporting counselors in their outreach efforts.

The Assistant Director represents the institution at high schools, college fairs, community-based events, and campus programs. They participate in admissions committee meetings, review and evaluate first-year applications, and collaborate closely with colleagues across campus to support yield and engagement initiatives.

This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with a commitment to fostering an inclusive admissions environment. Seasonal travel, evening and weekend work, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset are essential.

OVERVIEW AND ROLE SCOPE OF TEAM AND/OR TASKS

TEAM LEADERSHIP & SUPERVISION

  • Supervision of a team of two to three admissions counselors
  • Provide daily guidance, mentorship, and professional development support
  • Foster a team culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability aligned with CMU values
  • Oversee team travel planning and outreach strategies.
  • Support with leading team meetings and developing training content.
  • Hold regular 1-on-1 meetings with admissions counselors and conduct quarterly and yearly performance reviews
  • Address challenges that arise in travel, staff supervision, or applicant engagement.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from top management

RECRUITMENT STRATEGY & EXECUTION

  • Assist in the implementation, adjustment, and evaluation of regional recruitment strategies
  • Support counselors in developing and executing travel and recruitment plans
  • Represent CMU at external events and serve as a member of regional professional networks
  • Support the development and updating of admissions criteria and processes, working closely with other members of the admissions team

TERRITORY MANAGEMENT

  • Manage assigned geographic recruitment territory and serve as backup when needed
  • Provide one-on-one counseling to future students and their families on the admissions process
  • Conduct informational sessions, workshops, and presentations to educate students and families about the benefits of attending the institution, its programs, and opportunities available for students
  • Review and evaluate applications for admission based on current policy and practices, ensuring fair and equitable evaluation of all applicants

CUSTOMER SERVICE AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Provide excellent customer service by responding to inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain ongoing communication with prospective students throughout the admissions process, ensuring they are informed of their application status, important deadlines, and next steps
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for students in designated recruitment territory, offering support through email, phone, and in-person meetings

DATA TRACKING AND REPORTING

  • Track and report on recruitment activities, including outreach efforts, applications, and yield outcomes for the region
  • Maintain accurate records of all interactions with future students and ensure that information is entered into the admissions database
  • Establish awareness about cost effective recruitment activities. Submit travel expenses reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide regular reports to the Director of Admissions, Associate Director of Admissions, and other institutional stakeholders regarding recruitment efforts and regional trends

COLLABORATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Work collaboratively with Admission colleagues and across departments, including academic departments, IRIS, financial aid, and others, to ensure a smooth wrap around services
  • Participate in regular training and professional development to stay current on admissions trends, best practices, and institutional changes
  • Engage in ongoing learning of assigned recruitment region(s), its educational landscape, and the unique needs of prospective students in this area
  • Support daily office functions

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in college admissions as a full-time staff member
  • 1 or more years of supervisory experience of full-time staff; Or at least 2 years of progressively more responsible student staff management and supervision
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to effectively motivate and support staff in the accomplishment of defined enrollment goals and objectives.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and intrapersonal speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Databases.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours, nights and weekends as needed.
  • Proficiency in English (oral and written) at native level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Proven experience and interest in staff training and development.
  • Experience managing recruitment territory and cultivating relationships with stake holders.
  • Demonstrated experience in conceptualizing, planning, and executing admissions, recruitment, evaluation, and yield activities.
  • Proven experience utilizing a CRM for student recruitment, preferably Slate.
  • Relevant experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and proven sensitivity to those issues affecting underrepresented students in higher education and families, including relevant experience in outreach to disadvantaged students and the organizations that support these efforts.
