Position Overview
The Assistant Director is a senior member of the Residence Life team and works closely
with department staff, students, and campus partners to cultivate a residential
environment that promotes student learning and safety while building community and
advancing departmental initiatives through programming and student development
projects.
The Assistant Director is responsible for a variety of Residence Life functions including:
student leadership management, staff training & selection, and conflict resolution
support. This role is also involved in student conduct adjudication, building
management, and ongoing StarRez maintenance, which is an expectation of all members
of the Residence Life team. The AD must demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity,
equity and inclusion. This is a full-time, live-on position.

Coordinate student leadership efforts including program development, event management, and management of the Residence Hall Association
Work with building staff and students to support successful conflict resolution and promote interpersonal growth.
Work to ensure follow-up and responsibilities as it relates to physical and mental
student health needs of residential communities.
Oversee community programming and development ensuring strategic alignment with academic calendar and divisional goals.
Cultivate a vibrant and healthy residential community through programming, outreach, and relationship building.
Develop and distribute resources and training opportunities for faculty and staff
(including a resource guide) for supporting student wellbeing.
Work proactively with students and family members to resolve issues quickly and effectively at the lowest possible level.
Training & Selection
Lead the student staff recruitment and selection process, including providing leadership to professional staff team members.
Coordinate effective and ongoing student staff training and learning opportunities with internal and external partners.
Play a key role in advancing staff training related to resolution processes, community standards, conflict coaching, and mediation.
Coordinate the recruitment and hiring process for professional staff, as directed and in collaboration with Butler University Human Resources & organizational peers
Administration & Division
Support administrative operations including occupancy management, communication about break stay/room changes, and regular forms for staff.
Collaborate with the Coordinator of Housing Operations to train and manage the back-facing StarRez module for assignments, billing, and housing selection.
Work with the Dean of Students office, University Police, and other partners in appropriate response to issues/incidents in residential facilities.
Serve as a conduct officer and adjudicate low and mid-level cases as directed by the Dean of Students office
Provide administrative follow-up to students, families, or faculty members, addressing concerns and needs.
Promote and maintain positive public relations with faculty, staff, students, family members, and other constituents.
Provide operational updates to relevant campus partners on a regular basis.
