POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Residence Life is responsible for creating a dynamic, student-engaged on-campus experience and coordinates residential education, services, and student housing. This position collaborates with other Division staff, aligning student programs and services to create an intentional, holistic student experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for residence life operations, including fostering a positive community experience for residents.
  • Implementing and enforcing residence hall policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for housing of students, including housing applications, room assignments, room changes, roommate conflicts and mediations, and hall check-in and check-out.
  • Organize and conduct health and wellness checks in the residence halls.
  • Organize the Professional Staff on-call rotation schedule. Pro Staff is responsible for responding to incidents that occur on campus.
  • Appropriately responds to emergency situations within the halls in a timely and effective manner.
  • Works with admissions for new student registration and forecast housing requirements and to ensure all incoming students are prepared for move in.
  • Conduct the selection, hiring, and training of resident assistants (RA), directly supervise and evaluate 8-10 resident assistants.
  • Build positive relationships with students who live in the residence halls.
  • Assist with the Student Conduct process.
  • Conduct RA orientation and training at the beginning of each semester.
  • Facilitate weekly staff meetings and one-on-ones with RA's.
  • Supervise and evaluate RA's on community development, programming selection and execution of events. Attends programs and conducts assessments of programs in order to determine effectiveness.
  • Conducts regular inspections of the student housing facility and student units; identifies problem areas. Reports, tracks and follows up on Maintenance issues with appropriate with USM managers.
  • Manages residential student mail
  • Assists with executing campus events
  • Assists with planning and executing new student orientation
  • Others duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Affinity and support of University of Saint Mary mission.
  • Bachelor's degree required in the field of education, business, student development, or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Must maintain a primary residence in the Leavenworth/Lansing, KS area to meet the operational needs of the position, including after-hours and emergency response responsibilities. On-campus housing may be available as an alternative option.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and demonstrate good judgment and compassion
