Job Responsibilities

York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State.

The Assistant Director of Student Life performs the following functions:

  • New Student Orientation and Transition - Plans, implements, and evaluates New Student Orientation and related transition experiences. Develops annual plans, schedules, program content, communications, and operating procedures. Coordinates with Admissions, Academic Advising, academic divisions, Financial Aid, Student Records, Campus Safety, and other College areas to ensure students receive accurate and consistent information. Manages program logistics, facilities, technology, materials, participant communications, and follow-up. Identifies and communicates gaps affecting students' transition from admission through registration and the beginning of classes.
  • First-Year Engagement and Student Ambassador Coordination - Develops and coordinates programs, communications, events, and outreach that help new students navigate the College, build connections, and engage with available resources. Collaborates with faculty and staff to address common first-year transition needs and connect students with appropriate services and opportunities. Coordinates the recruitment, preparation, scheduling, and participation of student ambassadors, orientation leaders, peer leaders, and other students supporting assigned programs. Provides program-specific instructions, resources, and feedback to help participating students represent the College effectively and support their peers.
  • Program Administration, Assessment, and Improvement - Establishes goals, expected outcomes, implementation plans, and measures of effectiveness for assigned programs. Uses participation data, student feedback, and institutional information to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements. Prepares reports and maintains program records, procedures, calendars, communications, and other operational materials. Monitors assigned program budgets, processes purchases, and coordinates the use of facilities, equipment, technology, and other resources in accordance with College and State requirements.
  • Student Life Support and College Service - Provides administrative and event support for designated Student Life activities outside the position's primary orientation and transition responsibilities. Participates in College committees, workgroups, recruitment activities, student programs, and special projects. Represents Student Life at designated College and community events.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and at least two years of experience administering new student orientation and/or first-year experience programs or experience coordinating complex programs, initiatives, or events involving multiple departments and stakeholder
  • Experience training, scheduling, and providing day-to-day direction to student employees, orientation leaders, peer mentors, student ambassadors, or similar program participants
