Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Public Relations and Marketing supports the strategic development, execution, and evaluation of integrated marketing, communications, and public relations initiatives for Gila River Health Care (GRHC), serving the Gila River Indian Community. This role advances the organization's mission to provide high-quality, culturally responsive care to the GRIC Community. The position plays a critical role in strengthening community trust, promoting health and wellness, and ensuring all communications reflect the Community's values, traditions, and commitment to self-governance. The Assistant Director also supports operational functions including budgeting, contracts, procurement, and vendor management in alignment with GRHC policies and stewardship of resources.
Critical Tasks:
Assist in developing and executing marketing and communications strategies that align with GRHC's mission and
community health needs
Lead, supervise, and support marketing staff to ensure efficient operations, successful project execution, and achievement of organizational objectives.
Ensure all initiatives reflect and respect tribal sovereignty and self-governance principles
Collaborate with GRHC leadership, and community stakeholders to align messaging and outreach efforts
Ensure all messaging, visuals, and campaigns reflect the values, traditions, and cultural identity of the GRHC Community.
Maintain brand standards while integrating culturally meaningful elements and language
Review and approve materials to ensure cultural sensitivity and appropriateness
Support crisis communications with a focus on transparency, cultural awareness, and community impact
Lead planning and execution of community events, health fairs, wellness initiatives, and culturally significant events
Coordinate participation in GRIC observances, celebrations, and community gatherings
Manage sponsorships and partnerships to ensure alignment with Community priorities and benefit to members
Build and maintain strong relationships with tribal departments, programs, schools, and community leaders
Assist in development and oversight of the department's budget with strong emphasis on responsible stewardship of company resources
Oversee procurement processes including purchase orders, invoicing, and financial documentation
Support financial reporting, audits, and accountability standards
Manage contracts for marketing services, media, sponsorships, and external partnerships.
Oversee vendor performance, ensuring deliverables, timelines, and budgets are met
Support payroll processes, timekeeping, and personnel documentation in coordination with HR and Finance
Assist in staffing coordination, resource allocation, and departmental operations
Ensure compliance with GRHC policies and procedures
Support digital strategy including website, social media, and email communications with a focus on accessibility and inclusivity
Ensure communications are accessible to elders and individuals with varying levels of digital access
Monitor performance metrics and adjust strategies to better reach Community members
Support internal communications that foster employee engagement, cultural pride, and alignment with GRHC's mission
Promote awareness of Community events, cultural observances, and organizational initiatives
Reinforce a workplace culture grounded in respect, service, and shared purpose
Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to marketing and communications staff
Collaborate across GRHC departments including clinical, behavioral health, public health, and tribal programs
Foster a collaborative, respectful, and mission-driven team environment
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in marketing or a closely related field of study required.
5+ years of experience (healthcare preferred) in marketing, public relations, or a related field required.
Experience in developing and maintaining marketing strategies and with digital marketing and related software applications required.
Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
Be a member of a federally recognized tribe, preferred.
