  • Position Type: Contract to Hire
  • Contract Duration: 6 months
  • Pay Rate: $28.00 $32.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Flex Scheduling: Eligible for flex 9/80

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced distribution designer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing construction work packages for electric distribution projects, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, proficiency in design software, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed design drawings, specifications, and material lists for overhead and underground electric distribution projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, conductor sizing, voltage drop, and transformer sizing.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to client standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements including the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to meet project objectives and deadlines.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to various agencies.
  • Process information collected during site visits to gather information and verify field conditions to be used for design activities.
  • Provide technical support during the construction phase, addressing any design-related issues that may arise.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, from initial assignment to completion.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, GIS software, and other design tools.
  • Strong knowledge of electric distribution infrastructure and construction techniques.
  • Familiarity with NESC and other relevant industry standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum completed Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, drafting, or a related field is required.
  • Note: A Bachelor's degree in any Engineering field (including ABET-accredited Engineering degrees) is not allowed for this position.
  • Highest degree earned must be listed as "Completed" on resume.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of three years of experience in electric utility distribution design. (Team is NOT looking for entry-level candidates or drafters.) Must have distribution experience.
  • Internship experience does not count toward the required years of experience.
