Assistant Electrical Revit Detailer

Job Summary

The Assistant Electrical Detailer will assist in various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, and construction documentation as part of a project team. This role will require work on a diverse portfolio of project types and clients. The candidate may work on federal projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and model various telecommunication project types, including physical pathway infrastructure designs (inside and outside plant), equipment plan layouts, structured cabling layouts, and management of 3D Revit models; follow all company, client, and project design and drafting standards.
  • Lead the setup of telecommunications Revit models according to project requirements at the beginning of a project for the telecom design team.
  • Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches or from general engineering and design information (verbal instructions and notes) using Revit and other CAD software programs.
  • Assist with a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, refining rough sketches, sizing various system components, problem analysis, and performing calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Produce initial designs or sketches and redline/mark-up drawings on ongoing projects with limited engineering oversight.
  • Apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget, and schedule; perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings and project-related information using prescribed methods and standards.
  • Responsible for telecommunications BIM coordination with other disciplines and the overall project BIM coordination.
  • Responsible for telecommunications model health and data integrity for assigned projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Excel to develop the design deliverables.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software and programs.
  • Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge in telecommunications design, calculations, and systems.
  • Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of the engineering discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers) in a multi-disciplinary project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in Autodesk Revit is strongly preferred (particularly on large, commercial, multidisciplinary projects where coordination with other groups is key).
  • Electrical or telecom Revit experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Bluebeam or BIM modeling software.
  • CAD certification is highly preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field and minimum 2 years of related experience OR
  • Associate's degree and minimum 3 years of related experience OR
  • High School Diploma/GED and minimum 4 years of progressive detailing and design experience.
  • Note: A bachelor's degree in any engineering field is not allowed for this role.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 4 years of related detailing and design experience (based on degree level; see Education Requirements).
  • Internship experience does not count toward the years of experience requirement.
  • Experience on large, commercial projects with multidisciplinary coordination is strongly preferred.

Important Notes

  • This is a 100% onsite position in Cary, NC; no remote and no hybrid work. Not eligible for flex 9/80 schedule.
  • Candidates with an engineering degree (bachelor's in any engineering field) will be disqualified.
  • Interview process: 2 rounds.
  • Candidates must be able to technically speak to their Revit experience during interviews.
