Role Overview
The Assistant Engineer I is an entry level professional engineering role that performs a range of civil, environmental, and water quality engineering assignments under close supervision. The role supports regulatory compliance, water quality monitoring, engineering studies, and operational improvement initiatives across water treatment plants, reservoirs, and related facilities.
In this specific assignment, the Assistant Engineer I supports water quality, regulatory compliance, field sampling, and data analysis efforts, with increasing responsibility as experience is gained.
Key Responsibilities
Support regulatory compliance projects, including microplastics and invasive species (e.g., golden mussel) sampling.
Assist with water quality monitoring and inspection programs at treatment plants.
Perform field sampling and inspections at water treatment plants, reservoirs, creeks, and related facilities.
Conduct benchtop, pilotscale, and plantscale studies to support treatment optimization and reduce water quality violations or customer complaints.
Collect, compile, analyze, and graph operational and water quality data.
Assist with filter monitoring, floc retention analysis, and performance evaluations.
Help develop and maintain data dashboards to support predictive analytics and AI readiness.
Prepare technical documentation, reports, charts, and correspondence.
Provide general engineering support to senior engineers across planning, operations, and compliance activities.
Use engineering judgment within established procedures; escalate exceptions as required.
Required Experience
Required:
Entry level role – no prior professional engineering experience required.
Academic or internship experience related to:
Civil engineering
Environmental engineering
Water quality or environmental science
Engineering data collection or analysis
Preferred:
Experience with water quality monitoring or analysis.
Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques (e.g., pH, chlorine residual measurements).
Exposure to bench top or pilot scale testing.
Coursework or hands on experience related to:
Experience supporting field work in operational or environmental settings.
