The Engineer Assistant Traveling position affects the standard duties of the Engineer Assistant role; however, while assigned to the Riding Team, the scope of work may be more focused and project-specific. Crew selected for Riding Team assignments will contribute their expertise to maintenance across the fleet, with duties centered around defined deliverables rather than the broader daily operational responsibilities typically associated with their onboard role. During the course of the full assignment, the crew member may be assigned on contracts to multiple vessels, requiring additional travel and dynamic work deliverables.

He/she is responsible for the Engine Room maintenance and repairs ensuring that the work is being performed in a safe manner and in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations and company policy, under the direction of the First Engineer Traveling.

Essential Functions

  • Performs and assists with maintenance works, duties and tasks as directed by the First Engineer Traveling.
  • Maintain a high work moral and inspire others to work safely, effectively and employ proper work methods.
  • Maintain all the ship's running machinery directed by the First Engineer Traveling.
  • Be familiar with the Safety Management System including applicable responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years prior experience working with heavy machinery is required.
  • An Able Seafarer Engine A-III/5 license is required.

Education

  • High school diploma or foreign equivalent is required.

  • Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required.

  • Technical/mechanical education from an accredited vocational education institution is preferred.

Attributes

  • Intermediate to Advanced level of English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
