Position Summary
The Assistant Equipment Manager supports the daily operations of MEB's Equipment Division by coordinating fleet administration, DOT compliance, trucking logistics, equipment tracking, and shop operations. Working closely with the Equipment Manager, this position serves as a central point of contact between the shop, field operations, vendors, and project teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in fleet management, equipment operations, trucking, or logistics who enjoys building systems, solving problems, and helping keep a busy construction fleet operating efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
Fleet Administration & Compliance
- Manage vehicle registrations, titling, permits, and fleet documentation.
- Coordinate DOT, IFTA, and IRP compliance activities.
- Maintain driver qualification records and support regulatory compliance.
- Assist with FMCSA compliance programs, including drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Equipment Operations & Tracking
- Support equipment telematics and preventive maintenance programs.
- Track equipment locations, attachments, and fleet assets.
- Help improve maintenance history and equipment recordkeeping.
- Coordinate GPS, camera, and telematics systems across the fleet.
Trucking & Logistics
- Coordinate equipment transportation using company trucks and outside carriers.
- Schedule equipment deliveries and jobsite moves.
- Support oversized and permitted equipment moves.
- Coordinate rentals and loaner equipment when needed.
Shop & Field Support
- Assist with daily shop scheduling and coordination.
- Help prioritize equipment needs with project teams.
- Support mechanics and drivers with day-to-day operational needs.
- Visit jobsites and the equipment yard to inspect equipment and maintain relationships with field personnel.
Vendor & Administrative Support
- Coordinate with equipment dealers, vendors, and service providers.
- Prepare shop payroll time for review.
- Maintain accurate fleet records and documentation.
- Support continuous improvement of equipment management systems and processes.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience in fleet administration, equipment management, logistics, dispatch, transportation, or construction operations.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred
- Experience with DOT, IFTA, IRP, or FMCSA compliance.
- Experience with equipment telematics or fleet management software.
- Experience in heavy civil, construction, transportation, or equipment operations.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Construction Management, or a related field.
Work Environment
- Approximately 80% office and 20% field.
- Regular visits to equipment yards and active construction jobsites.
- Frequent interaction with mechanics, drivers, superintendents, project teams, vendors, and equipment suppliers.
- Occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $85,000 to $105,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, certifications, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
