Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to ensure the department adheres to all State and Federal mandates relating to fire suppression and that all personnel follow all County and Fire Department rules, regulations, and SOPs.
This job is performed independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Major Duties
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; processes employee concerns and problems; directs work; counsels; disciplines; and completes employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors work in progress; inspects completed assignments; answers questions; and provides advice and direction as needed.
- Ensures all equipment is in working condition.
- Monitors inventory of expendable supplies for stations and trucks.
- Responds to and coordinates emergency incident response activities; performs firefighting and rescue tasks, including fire suppression, vehicle extrication, and emergency medical procedures; serves as incident commander at fire scenes.
- Participates in wellness activities to maintain fitness for duty to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Assists the Fire Chief with special projects as required.
- Performs the duties of the Fire Chief in his or her absence and as assigned.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires an Associate's degree, vocational-technical degree, or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
- Ten years of fire suppression or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

- Master Peace Officer License by TCOLE.
- State Certified Paramedic.
- Must possess a valid and current Texas Drivers License with an acceptable driving history. *If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained prior to employment.
