Position Summary
The Assistant Football Coach supports the Head Football Coach in developing and maintaining a competitive, educationally based interscholastic football program. The position focuses on student-athlete development, sportsmanship, safety, and alignment with school and district values.
Reports To: Head Football Coach and Athletic Director
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Program & Player Development • Assist with planning and conducting daily practices, drills, and skill development sessions • Teach football fundamentals, position-specific techniques, and team concepts • Support strength, conditioning, and off-season development as directed • Emphasize academic success, leadership, and character development
Game Preparation & Competition • Assist with game planning, film breakdown, scouting, and opponent preparation • Coach assigned position group(s) during practices and games • Assist with sideline organization, substitutions, and in-game adjustments • Supervise athletes before, during, and after contests, including travel
Player Safety & Supervision • Promote proper technique, injury prevention, and player safety • Assist with equipment fitting, safety checks, and compliance with safety protocols • Monitor and report injuries following school and district procedures
Program Culture & Sportsmanship • Support team rules, discipline, and behavioral expectations consistently • Model and promote sportsmanship, respect, and professionalism • Help foster a positive, team-oriented culture
Communication & Collaboration • Communicate regularly with the Head Coach regarding player development and team needs • Maintain appropriate communication with athletes, parents, and staff • Collaborate with coaching staff, athletic trainers, and school personnel
Administrative & Operational Support • Assist with equipment inventory, distribution, and maintenance • Support supervision of locker rooms, weight rooms, and facilities • Comply with all school, district, conference, and WIAA rules

Knowledge of football rules, techniques, and coaching strategies Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills Commitment to student-athlete academic and personal growth
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous coaching and/or playing experience at the high school or collegiate level • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) • Completion of required coaching education and concussion training
