Description

Overview:

PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Assistant General Counsel at our Tysons, Virginia location.  The primary purpose of this position is to provide legal counsel and services to management and staff in order to promote Pentagon Federal Credit Union’s (PenFed) corporate and business unit initiatives, while mitigating legal risks.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and revise various legal documents to protect the interests of PenFed, its CUSO subsidiaries, and members (including membership and account agreements, commercial contracts, disclosures, etc.).
  • Provide legal advice to various business units and subsidiaries on a broad array of proposed, new or existing account or lending products and services with a focus on consumer protection, direct and indirect lending, securitizations, loan sales/purchases, mortgage servicing, collections, and real estate transactions.

  • Represent or assist outside counsel with the representation of the credit union and its subsidiaries in a variety of civil actions related to credit reporting, delinquency collections, employment, and real estate matters.  Work with outside counsel to negotiate settlements, analyze credit union-specific issues, and develop litigation strategies.

  • Keep informed of legislation, regulations, judicial and other legal developments, and trends affecting federal credit unions and the financial services industry in general.

  • Analyze and interpret laws, rulings, and regulations with probable outcomes for the credit union and its subsidiaries.

  • Interact with PenFed and subsidiary staff, vendors, and government officials on a regular basis.

  • Other duties assigned are consistent with qualifications.

Qualifications:

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Graduate degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Active member of the highest court of a state bar required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years as a practicing attorney with experience in retail banking, lending, real estate matters and/or other financial services experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working independently in fast-paced environments and able to multi-task.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Proven project management and problem-solving skills and results driven.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and highly organized.
  • Experience in using A.I. tools preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not supervise employees.

 

Licenses and Certifications

Ability to practice law in the state where assigned.
 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*

 

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on call may be required.

 

Pay Transparency
The anticipated starting salary range for this role is $84,700.00 - $184,092.00
This position is eligible for an organizational performance based annual bonus, subject to board discretion and approval. 
This position is eligible for an individual performance based annual bonus.
