Assistant GIS Specialist

Position Overview
We are seeking an Assistant GIS Specialist for a long-term contract opportunity with our client in Glen Allen, VA. This position will support the development, maintenance, analysis, and management of GIS data for a variety of projects. The Assistant GIS Specialist will work closely with project teams and clients to develop accurate GIS data, maps, and project deliverables while providing strong communication and project support.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with GIS analysis, data development, data collection, mapping, and maintenance for client projects.
Create and update GIS maps, map layers, and geospatial databases.
Perform GIS metadata creation, digital feature extraction, land survey record searches, and property ownership research.
Assist with coordinate system projections, geospatial data transformations, and georeferencing of raster and vector datasets.
Utilize ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Microsoft Excel, deeds, field notes, and other project documentation to develop GIS maps and deliverables.
Perform QA/QC reviews of GIS data and deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
Support ad-hoc GIS analyses and project-related data requests.
Coordinate with internal project teams and clients to communicate project status and support successful project execution.
Maintain accurate project documentation and GIS data.
Follow applicable company and site safety requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
Basic proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online (AGOL).
Familiarity with Esri Enterprise and other Esri products.
Knowledge of GIS data management, cartography, coordinate systems, and geospatial data.
Familiarity with ArcPy and basic Python scripting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience is preferred.
GISP certification or an Esri technical certification is preferred but not required.
Minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
