Assistant GIS Specialist

Position Overview
Our client is seeking an Assistant GIS Specialist to join their growing team in Kansas City, MO. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career GIS professional who is passionate about geospatial technology, data analysis, and mapping. The successful candidate will support the development, maintenance, analysis, and management of GIS data for a variety of engineering and infrastructure projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with GIS analysis, data development, collection, and mapping for a variety of client projects.
- Support internal and external project teams by developing accurate GIS deliverables.
- Create and maintain GIS metadata, perform digital feature extraction, conduct land survey record searches, and research ownership data from multiple sources.
- Assist with coordinate system projections and geospatial data transformations.
- Create, update, and maintain GIS maps, map layers, and geospatial databases.
- Georeference raster and vector datasets.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to ensure GIS deliverables meet project and client requirements.
- Utilize ArcGIS applications, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, deeds, field notes, and other project documentation to develop mapping products supporting field personnel.
- Communicate project status regularly with project teams and stakeholders to support successful project execution.
- Support project objectives related to quality, efficiency, billability, and utilization.
- Follow all company and project site safety policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and sound judgment.
- Prior internship or related GIS consulting experience is preferred.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
- A master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- GIS Professional (GISP) certification or an Esri Technical Certification.
- Experience with Esri Enterprise products.
- Basic knowledge of ArcPy and Python scripting.
- Experience with GIS data management, cartography, technical writing, project coordination, and QA/QC processes.
