Description The School of Automotive at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Instructor/Assistant Lecturer position within its Baccalaureate Automotive Technology program. This position requires teaching undergraduate automotive technical courses. This position is a 9 month term, non-tenure track appointment that begins August 11, 2026.

Due to the newly established $100,000 fee for H-1B petitions requesting consular processing outside of the U.S., Southern Illinois University is unable to provide H-1B sponsorship at this time for any prospective applicant who is outside of the U.S. and requires consular processing. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Examples of Duties • Carry an approved teaching load and maintain appropriate office hours. • Manage classrooms, laboratories, tools, equipment, and other resources utilized. • Provide educational and professionally related assistance to prospective and enrolled students. • Engage in indirect instruction to support student learning and retention. • Keep students apprised of grades as the semester progresses and enter final grades electronically within specified deadlines. • Participate in professional associations, service, and outreach activities related to the discipline. • Participate in program development, quality assurance and assessment duties as required. • Remain abreast of recent developments and practices in the industry. • Maintain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s) in assigned teaching areas. • Maintain training and credentials necessary for Program Accreditation. • Comply with Program quality assurance and assessment requirements. • Comply with all University and College policies and procedures. • Comply with all School guidelines. • Engage in other School assignments as determined by the School Director. • Support and positively contribute to SIU's mission of student success and retention through actions and responsibilities within this role.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: • BS degree in automotive technology. • Rank is based on academic degree held at time of appointment. • Assistant Instructor requires a baccalaureate degree. • Minimum three (3) years of tested professional experience of related work experience and/or industry training/certifications. • Tested professional experience encompasses a wide range of activities found throughout the automotive industry.

Preferred Qualifications: • Earned Master's degree in automotive, technology, business, education, or related discipline with corporate experience in the automotive industry or related industries.
