The Assistant Librarian position is a full-time position with a start date of August 1, 2026. The position is for the academic year, and the duties include a teaching load of two classes, and other school duties as assigned. This position reports to the Head Librarian and the Principal. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the Head Librarian, develops and maintains Library programs and processes which support the philosophy and objectives of the school, particularly the research standards and objectives.
  • Assists in modeling, instructing, and supporting students, faculty, and staff both in the Library/Information Commons and/or the classroom as they seek to meet their information needs and reading interests. This includes (but is not limited to) active development of search strategies; access, evaluation, and use of materials; and proper incorporation and citation of those materials.
  • Provides leadership and expertise in preparation, delivery, and assessment of information resources both in the Library/Information Commons and/or the classroom for a variety of curricular subject areas.
  • Promotes ethical use of information and technology through respect for intellectual property and adherence to appropriate laws.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the Library website, Library/Information Commons environment, displays, and signage to promote effective learning and use by students and school personnel.
  • Assists with circulation, cataloging, interlibrary loan, ordering and processing new materials, processing library cards, overdue notices, scheduling, shelving, inventory, and other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as liaison with IT in reporting technical problems, conducting Level I troubleshooting of equipment, and deploying solutions.
  • Acts as a personal example of those attributes to which we call our students (the Grad at Grad): open to growth, intellectually competent, loving, religious, and committed to promoting justice.
  • Participates in departmental and school-wide professional development initiatives (examples: diversity training, Ignatian education workshops, technology training).
  • Participates in the extracurricular life of the students and the school.
  • In the absence of the Head Librarian, maintains the daily activities of the Library/Information Commons.
  • Participates in professional development activities, conferences, and workshops. Reads professional literature to keep current on latest trends in the field, and is a member of the ALA.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • Master of Library Science from ALA-accredited institution.
  • Certification in School Library Media.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to lift fifty pounds.
  • Sensitivity to diversity.

PREFERRED

  • Prior experience in a high school library.
  • Prior experience in a diverse community.
