ASSISTANT MANAGER – Barbados

The Assistant Manager supports the effective day-to-day management of all operations in Barbados. The role has shared responsibility for ensuring operational continuity,
service excellence, regulatory compliance, and staff performance.
In the absence of the Country Manager, the Assistant Manager assumes operational oversight of the Barbados
operation and reports directly to the Managing Director, ensuring uninterrupted operations and adherence to
company standards.


JOB DUTIES
The job duties outlined under the upcoming sections of this contract are not an exhaustive list. As such,
you will be expected to perform different tasks within the organization, based on overall business objectives.


General
  • Support the Country Manager in overseeing all operational aspects of the business, including cargo operations, customer service, human resources, and administration.
  • Ensure operational continuity and act as the senior on-site authority in the absence of the Country Manager
  • Assist in driving operational efficiency, service quality, and profitability.
  • Support the achievement of business goals and performance objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure all tasks assigned to you are created, documented, and updated within required timelines
  • Clock in and clock out of the company’s time clock system daily.
  • Perform other related job responsibilities as assigned by the Country Manager or Managing Director.

Cargo Clearance and Processing
  • Support the timely clearance of all air freight and sea freight cargo.
  • Ensure Customs duties are accurately applied to all cargo.
  • Coordinate with the US Warehouse and local cargo team to ensure smooth cargo operations.
  • Assist with preparation and submission of Clearing Lists and Customs Duties Reconciliation Reports.
  • Investigate and resolve cargo issues and escalate serious matters as required.
  • Provide direct support and supervision to Cargo Officers, Drivers, and Cargo Assistants.

Financial Management and Cost Control
  • Support effective control of operational costs while maintaining service standards.
  • Assist with payables, receivables, petty cash, and duties payments verification.
  • Support customer payment follow-ups in line with the company’s credit policy.
  • Ensure all financial follow-up actions are logged in the company database.
  • Assist with procurement of operational supplies and inventory control.
People Development and Performance Management
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and supervision of employees.
  • Assist with performance monitoring, coaching, and feedback.
  • Help maintain a positive and professional work environment.
  • Support scheduling, attendance tracking, overtime, and TOIL management.
  • Escalate disciplinary matters as appropriate.
Customer Service Excellence
  • Support high standards of customer service across all platforms.
  • Assist with resolution of customer complaints and escalations.
  • Coordinate with the Contact Centre and US Warehouse on customer inquiries.
  • Ensure timely follow-up and resolution of customer issues.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure cargo is handled safely and professionally at all times.
  • Support monitoring and maintenance of company vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
  • Promote a culture of zero tolerance for safety and security incidents.
  • Report compliance and safety issues promptly via the company's database
