Official Job Description Job Title: Assistant Store Manager Classification: Hourly, non-exempt, subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Revision Date: 01/2018 Job Purpose: To assist the Manager with the day-to-day store operations and store performance. Responsible for the opening/closing of the store, daily bank deposits, keeping register stocked with adequate change, addressing customer/donor needs/complaints in the Manager's absence. Supervises store employees. Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: Two years of retail sales experience and one year of supervisory experience Clearances: Must be able to obtain acceptable results for required background checks, including Act 151 Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania Criminal History Check and Department of Human Services- FBI Fingerprints. Supervision Received: The Assistant Store Manager functions under the direct supervision of the Senior Store Manager or Store Manager. Supervision Exercised: The Assistant Store Manager, in the absence of the Senior Store Manager or Store Manager, supervises all associates working in the retail store. Skills, Abilities, Duties, and Responsibilities: 1. Stocks and maintains interior and exterior of store in a neat, clean and orderly manner. This includes processing donated merchandise, placing new stock on the sales floor, pulling the old stock off the sales floor, cleaning the store, returning out-of-place merchandise to its proper location and straightening merchandise that has been disarranged. 2. Motivates employees to reach production guidelines. 3. Uses cash register to total sales, accepts payments and authorizes voids, returns, exchanges, and credit for merchandise. Balances cash register receipts, prepares daily bank deposits and maintains records of store transactions for each business day as scheduled. Ensures that correct sales reports are submitted on a daily basis, as directed by the manager or assistant manager. 4. Maintain safe and appropriate conditions in shopping and backroom area. 5. Assists customers/donors as required by either selling merchandise or accepting donations of used goods.6. Follows company policies and safety procedures for all undertakings while on the job. 7. In the Manager’s absence trains and assists other store employees. 8. Mayassist with conducting workplace orientations for new hires as needed. Ensures that all personnel packets are complete, scanned to HR and are maintained in a secure manner. 9. Mayhave more supervisory responsibility if the manager is absent or on vacation. 10. Informs the Manager of significant issues or incidents, including the personnel and customer needs. 11. Regular attendance is required with the ability to work a flexible schedule on short notice, including evenings, weekends and occasionally long hours. 12. Maintain excellent hygiene/grooming standards. 13. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with customers, donors, co-workers, and staff. 14. Knowledge of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, as well as furniture and household items. 15. Perform basic job duties with a minimal amount of supervision, exercising good judgment and initiative. 16. Participates in the store's loss control by watching customers and employees and reporting suspicious activity. 17. Ensures a clean and safe environment in the store, processing area and/or donation center by practicing good housekeeping practices or delegating those tasks to store employees. 18. Observes safety procedures and personnel policies and ensures compliance by employees. 19. Acts as a positive role model for employees, trainees and customers in all respects of professional development. 20. Ensures the store is open and operational during designated hours of operation. 21. Ability to perform basic job duties with a minimal amount of supervision, exercising good judgment and initiative 22. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 30 lbs. Frequently 23. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. occasionally, (material handling equipment can be used to minimize effort expended, when practical) 24. Ability to perform prolonged walking and standing 25. Ability to perform frequent bending, stooping, and stretching 26. Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits 27. Know different shades and tones of color.28. Know merchandise within a variety of categories: name brand, antiques, vintage, collectables, to name a few. 29.
