Job Summary

Major Duties

The Assistant Manager at The Marine Shop is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of The Marine Shop. They work to ensure that the store is running smoothly, customers receive exceptional service, and sales goals are met. The Assistant Manager also leads and manages a team of sales associates and provides training and support to ensure that all team members are providing excellent customer service.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to sales associates and supervisors to meet and exceed customer expectations
  • Oversee daily operations of the store, including opening and closing procedures
  • Manage customer inquiries, complaints, and resolve issues in a professional manner
  • Ensure store is clean, organized, and properly merchandised
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels and partners with inventory and buying teams to ensure all areas are fully stocked
  • Oversee tailoring and alterations services as needed, ensuring high-quality work and customer satisfaction
  • Assist with the management of store operations, including cash management, inventory control, and product placement.
  • Partner with buyer and General Manager to implement marketing and promotional activities to increase sales and customer loyalty
  • Review financial reports and make recommendations for improving store performance
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment

Supervises employees to include: assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, completing performance reviews and signing timecards, training employees, keeping abreast of and actively supporting the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol abuse and take appropriate action.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.

Flexibility to work weekends, early mornings and evenings as needed. Some travel may be required.

The incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 20lbs independently and objects over 20lbs with assistance

Qualifications

Bachelors degree is preferred and 3+ years of retail management experience. Knowledge of tailoring and alterations is a plus. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team of associates. Ability to analyze financial reports and make informed decisions. Ability to work with mathematical concepts as applicable to a retail environment.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Ability to effectively communicate in English, in both oral and written forms.
