Position Summary: Supports the Medical Director in overseeing tactical operations and selected strategic initiatives within Behavioral Health Services medical programs. Provides clinical leadership, operational oversight, and supervision of Behavioral Health Medical Providers (BHMPs). Assists in driving operational performance, regulatory compliance, quality improvement and provider engagement consistent with Gila River Health Care's vision, strategies, goals, and objectives. Provides clinical leadership in the development and oversight of specialized psychiatric service lines. Serves as Acting Medical Director in the absence of the Medical Director, Behavioral Health Services.

Critical Tasks:

  • Ensures mission, vision and values are upheld consistently with the organizational and strategic plan of GRHC.
  • Assists in implementation and monitoring of BHS medical services operational strategies including productivity, quality, access, and patient-service metrics.
  • Leads development, expansion, and ongoing oversight of psychiatry service line under the direction of the Medical Director.
  • Supervises and provides clinical oversight to Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) assigned to the Behavioral Health Crisis Stabilization Center ensuring evidence-based psychiatric assessment, medication management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborates with Crisis Center leadership to establish clinical protocols, supervision structures, productivity standards, and escalation pathways.
  • Participates in quality improvement, utilization management, peer review, and risk management activities.
  • Conducts peer chart reviews and provides structured feedback with reporting to the Medical Director.
  • Assists with provider recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Collaborates with BHS Quality and TRBHA leadership to support network sufficiency and continuity of care for enrolled members.
  • Participates in GRHC committees and represents the Medical Director when delegated.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in all interactions and promotes teamwork, respect, innovation and excellence.
  • Completes all other administrative duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO).
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatric Medicine residency program required.
  • Current, unrestricted and valid State of Arizona license or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Minimum five (5) years' clinical experience; leadership experience preferred.
  • Current or eligible for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure.
  • Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain hospital privileges.
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
