Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach

The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a full-time, Assistant Men's Lacrosse coach.

This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Job Type: Full Time

Job Purpose: The full time Men's Lacrosse assistant coach provides support and leadership in all aspects of developing highly successful programs primarily focused on instruction and mentorship for student athletes. The Men's Lacrosse assistant is expected to be fully integrated into the life of the program, the athletics department and university mission. The position is an avenue to empower and build lives through the avenue of college athletics.

Specific Job Duties

Coaching and Practice Management (Traditional Championship Season)

  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to plan, organize, and conduct team practices.
  • Lead individual and small-group training sessions as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Prepare practice equipment and coordinate drill setup.
  • Provide individualized and team-specific instruction, skill development, and constructive feedback during practices and competitions.
  • Evaluate team performance and identify areas for improvement and future development.
  • Coordinate strength and conditioning activities in partnership with the Strength and Conditioning staff.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the program's social media presence by promoting team accomplishments, events, and culture.
  • Analyze opponents and prepare scouting reports, performance assessments, and competition strategies.

Competition Responsibilities

  • Coordinate travel logistics, including transportation, meals, lodging, and itineraries, as assigned.
  • Assist with pre-competition preparation and warm-up activities.
  • Provide coaching, instruction, and performance feedback throughout competitions.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and supportive competitive environment for student-athletes.

Non-Traditional Season Responsibilities

  • Coordinate offseason strength and conditioning activities with appropriate staff.
  • Manage equipment inventory, maintenance, setup, and storage.
  • Coordinate the distribution, collection, and tracking of team apparel and equipment.
  • Schedule and conduct individual student-athlete meetings.
  • Assist in developing season schedules and travel plans.
  • Coordinate required team paperwork, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Obtain and maintain required driver authorization for team travel.

Annual Program Administration

  • Assist with planning special events, camps, clinics, and community service initiatives.
  • Coordinate recruiting visit days and overnight campus visits.
  • Maintain communication with current student-athletes, families, alumni, and program supporters.
  • Oversee uniform distribution, collection, replacement, and inventory management.
  • Coordinate apparel selection and ordering for the program.

Recruiting Responsibilities

  • Maintain proficiency in the institution's recruiting database and software systems.
  • Track prospective student-athletes throughout the recruiting process, including inquiries, campus visits, commitments, and enrollment.
  • Maintain accurate recruiting correspondence and communication records.
  • Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes through recruiting databases, showcases, tournaments, and competitions.
  • Communicate regularly with prospective student-athletes, families, coaches, and counselors.
  • Coordinate and participate in campus visit programs, Open House events, family meetings, and campus tours.
  • Attend recruiting events, showcases, tournaments, and high school competitions throughout the year.

Budget and Resource Management

  • Assist the Head Coach in developing and managing the annual operating budget.
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with departmental budget guidelines.
  • Coordinate the purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of uniforms, equipment, and supplies while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

External Relations and Program Development

  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with alumni, donors, families, and community stakeholders.

  • Promote the Men's Lacrosse program through community engagement, outreach, and strategic communications.

  • Support fundraising, alumni engagement, and program visibility initiatives.

Compliance and Additional Responsibilities

  • Support and uphold NCAA, conference, institutional, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and Title IX compliance in all aspects of the athletics program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Starting Salary: $38,000- $48,000

Experience/Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions
  • Must have good teamwork skills

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged standing/setting/wrist movement
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.

Successful coaching background

Preferred qualifications:

Collegiate playing or coaching experience in a successful program
