The Assistant Middle School and High School Cross Country Coach will support the head coach in running daily training sessions, monitoring athlete safety and conditioning, and organizing meet logistics. The Assistant Coach will help teach distance-running fundamentals, foster sportsmanship, and ensure all team activities comply with state, regional, and district athletic regulations.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Training & Instruction: Assist the head coach in designing and executing training programs, conditioning exercises, and skill-building activities for distance running.
• Safety & Supervision: Monitor athletes during practices and competitions. Ensure strict safety and injury protocols are followed.
• Event & Travel Management: Help coordinate meet logistics, event scheduling, and team transportation within guidelines set by the district and state.
• Equipment & Inventory: Manage the distribution, collection, and inventory of uniforms, team supplies, and running gear.
• Compliance & Eligibility: Verify that all athletes have completed necessary physical examinations, academic requirements, and mandated athletic clearances before participation.
• Communication: Maintain clear communication with the head coach, athletes, parents, school administrators, and athletic director.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Previous running or coaching experience at the middle school, high school, or collegiate level is strongly preferred.
• Certifications: Valid state coaching certification (e.g., West Virginia Department of Education) and completion of all required WVSSAC coursework.

Established by the Clay County Board of Education coaching salary schedule.
