SUMMARY:The Assistant Volleyball Coach supports the Head Volleyball Coach in planning, organizing, and implementing a comprehensive volleyball program that promotes athletic skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, academic achievement, and personal growth. The Assistant Coach provides instruction and supervision to student-athletes, assists with practices and competitions, ensures compliance with Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) rules and district policies, and helps foster a positive, safe, and inclusive athletic environment that reflects the mission and values of Chief Leschi Schools.

ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Implements and enforce all decision and directives of the head coach
• Assists the head coach with planning and conducting all practice sessions consistent with the plan of implementation
• Maintains a current and accurate squad roster at all times, making sure that it is on file with the head coach
• Supports the head coach in conducting the athletic program of the assigned sport and the total athletic program of the Chief Leschi School system; contributes to and supports team strategies as outlined by the head coach
• Demonstrates loyalty to the head coach and the team
• Attends team staff meetings as directed by the head coach, athletic director or building principal
• Assumes any duties assigned by the head coach pertaining to the respective sport, including conducting portions of practice drills, handling equipment, determining eligibility, working with student managers, scouting, public relations, and maintaining statistics
• In the absence of the head coach, assumes all responsibilities designated as those of the head coach
• Reports any injuries to the head coach and/or athletic director
• Assists with the inspection of all equipment, oversees the issuance and collection of equipment, and maintains equipment inventory records; advise the head coach of any equipment that needs repair or certification. All equipment is the responsibility of the coach.
• Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Be at least 19 years old

Possess a high school diploma or GED

Hold a valid and current first Aid Certification card or be enrolled in a Red Cross first aid card training course

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Have an associate's degree from an accredited college with major coursework in Physical Education, coaching or a related field; or have three or more years of direct work experience as a coach of a major team sport (Alternative combinations of education and experience will be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.)

Have knowledge of WIAA interscholastic activities policies and WIAA coaching standards

Be experienced in coaching a diverse student population

Be a current employee of Chief Leschi Schools

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Head Volleyball Coach or Athletic Director or designee

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. Workplace accommodations may be provided in accordance with CLS Tribal policy.

• Employees may be required to sit or stand for extended periods and perform tasks involving reaching, talking, hearing, bending, stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and fine motor coordination.
• This position may require regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, with appropriate assistance or equipment as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in an indoor educational environment with moderate noise levels. Employees may work in and/or proximity to classrooms, students, and standard office or instructional equipment. Conditions may vary based on program needs.
