Job Summary:

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Mercy University invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor position in the Criminal Justice program, to begin in Fall 2026. This is a multi-year, non-tenure-track core faculty appointment with teaching responsibilities across undergraduate and graduate courses. Instruction may be assigned at the Bronx, Manhattan, and Dobbs Ferry campuses, as well as online, based on program needs.

The Criminal Justice program at Mercy University is committed to providing a high-quality, student-centered education grounded in social justice and interdisciplinary learning. In April 2025, the program received Program Endorsement from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), reflecting a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, curriculum, and student support.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

• Teach 24 credits across a range of required undergraduate and graduate courses in Criminal Justice, including Research Methods in Criminal Justice and courses such as Introduction to the Criminal Justice System, Introduction to Corrections, Criminology, and the Senior Seminar Capstone
• Maintain a teaching load with at least 50% of courses based at the Bronx campus, while remaining prepared to teach at the Manhattan and Dobbs Ferry campuses, as well as online, based on program needs
• Contribute to curriculum development, revision, and alignment with Mercy University's mission and the standards of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS)
• Mentor students and support their academic and professional development
• Participate in program assessment, university service, and initiatives that promote student engagement and academic excellence

Preferred Skills:

• Evidence of scholarship and teaching related to the use of new technologies in the criminal justice field, including but not limited to artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, cybercrime, surveillance, and big data.
• Experience or interest in curriculum development at both undergraduate and graduate levels
• Engagement in or interest in pursuing external funding or grant-supported initiatives
• Interest in or experience with academic leadership and program development

Required Skills & Experience:

• Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Criminal Justice or a related field
• Demonstrated knowledge of core areas within criminal justice (e.g., criminology, law enforcement, courts, corrections, or juvenile justice)
• Demonstrated ability to engage students using a range of instructional methods across in-person and online formats
• Experience supporting student success through advising, mentoring, and academic guidance
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear and constructive feedback
• Experience using Blackboard or Blackboard Ultra to support course delivery, communication, and assessment
• Experience designing and developing courses in online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats
• Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and community partners
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic academic environment
• Commitment to working with diverse student populations and fostering an inclusive learning environment

Education Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a closely related field (ABD considered if near completion)
• Demonstrated ability to teach Research Methods in Criminal Justice and additional core courses within the Criminal Justice curriculum
• Commitment to incorporating high-impact teaching practices such as project-based learning, community-based learning, workplace-integrated learning, faculty-mentored research, or faculty-led study abroad
