Position Summary

The Design & Illustration Department at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction in Visual Design with a UX/UI Focus beginning with the Fall 2026 semester. This two-year, non-tenure track faculty appointment has the possibility of renewal. We seek a dynamic designer and educator with expertise in user experience and interface design grounded in strong visual design foundations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency across the UX process-research, prototyping, and design implementation-paired with excellence in visual communication, typography, and motion. They will also play a key role in shaping the curriculum for Tyler's new BFA in User Experience and User Interface Design and the Minor in UX/UI Design, preparing students for the evolving future of design that bridges creativity, technology, and user-centered thinking.

Responsibilities:

• Teach courses across the department's programs, including Graphic and Interactive Design, User Experience and User Interface Design, and Illustration and Emerging Media.

• Develop and maintain curriculum for the new BFA in User Experience and User Interface Design and the UX/UI Design Minor, ensuring courses remain current and aligned with evolving practices in UX/UI, product design, and accessibility.

• Collaborate with faculty to strengthen shared coursework in visual design, typography, motion design and UX/UI design.

• Stay current with industry developments and emerging tools to ensure coursework reflects contemporary design practice and professional standards.

• Mentor and advise students from different backgrounds.

• Contribute to departmental, college, and university service.

Qualifications:

Required:

• A terminal degree (MFA or equivalent) in design or a related field, or significant professional experience in UX/UI or product design.

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in UX/UI, interaction, or product design.

• Proficiency across the UX process, including user research, concept development, prototyping, testing, and post-launch iteration.

• Experience working directly with developers, product teams, or clients to bring digital products to life.

• Strong foundation in visual design, including typography, layout, motion, and visual hierarchy, with the ability to apply these principles across both digital and traditional media.

• Expertise in accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.

• Experience using industry-standard tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite to create user-centered, visually engaging interfaces.

• Ability to teach and develop courses that connect visual design with UX/UI and product design principles, as well as general design and motion design courses.

• Demonstrated commitment to staying current with evolving industry practices, tools, and technologies.

• Commitment to creating inclusive, accessible spaces for all students.

Preferred:

• University-level teaching experience.

• Evidence of collaborative and interdisciplinary work.

Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
