Title: Secondary Assistant Principal

Qualifications:
Minimum of a Master''s Degree in Educational Administration (or similar)
Appropriate administrative license
Minimum of 3 - 5 years teaching experience, preferably in secondary school
Experience in school administration (preferred)
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Definition: The Assistant Principal serves as an educational leader, responsible for assisting in managing the policies, regulations and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe, supportive learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission/vision of the district.
Essential Functions:
LEADERSHIP:
Develop, advocate and enact shared mission, vision and core values for continuous improvement
Act ethically and according to professional norms
Through shared leadership, implement collaborative structures to analyze data and causality, align evidence-based strategies to deliberate goals, develop the capacity of staff, and partner with internal and external supports to improve learning conditions and outcomes
Assist the Principal in leading the change process for continuous improvement
LEARNING
Assist Principal in fostering an environment of effective and rigorous personalized instruction by ensuring each student has equitable access to teachers, leaders, and learning supports
Ensure that the instructional content that is taught is aligned with the Ohio academic content standards and curriculum priorities in the school and district
Support all staff by promoting and organizing an environment focused on continuous improvement and personal growth to achieve outcomes for each student
Ensure that instructional practices are effective and meet the needs of all students
Understand, encourage, and facilitate the effective use of data by staff
Support staff in planning and implementing research-based professional development
Promote the use of relevant technologies to enhance student learning, collaboration and professional development
Create a nurturing learning environment to address the physical and mental health needs of all
CULTURE
Establish and sustain collaborative learning and shared leadership to promote learning and achievement for all students
Promote a collaborative learning culture
Share leadership with staff, students, parents, and community members
Engage parents and community members in the educational process and create an environment where community resources support student learning, achievement, and well-being
Use community resources to improve student learning
Involve parents and community members to improve student learning
Connect the school with the community
Establish expectations to ensure all staff are equipped to respond to diverse needs of all students
Implement and monitor an effective building Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) plan
Address student behavioral problems which are beyond the level of teacher responsibility
Meet with teachers, parents, and counselors to seek a resolution to student behavioral problems
Assist with supervision for students in all areas including upon arrival/dismissal, cafeteria, hallways, and assemblies
Assume responsibility for the safety and health needs of students
Maintain accurate records of student enrollment and monitor student attendance, including necessary intervention strategies to ensure excellent student attendance
MANAGEMENT
Implement and comply with all board policies, regulations and negotiated agreements
Understand and model professional ethics, policies, and legal codes of professional conduct
Attend meetings with other district staff, as designated by the Superintendent and/or Principal
Assist Principal in supervision of instruction and evaluation of all staff performance
Assist with assignment and supervision of all substitute personnel
Responsible for student schedules, class lists, report cards, honor rolls and duty assignments
Maintain accurate records related to staff attendance
Coordinate transportation, custodial, food service and other support services within the school
Ensure that the physical facilities of the school and grounds are clean, orderly, and safe
Work with District maintenance staff, reports maintenance needs
SPECIFIC AREA OF FOCUS
In addition to the above, all Secondary Assistant Principals will be responsible for the oversight of at least one of the following:
Data & Accountability all matters pertaining to local, state, and national assessments, including Ohio State Tests, College Board assessments, and ACT/SAT administrations
Operational Management all matters pertaining to the smooth functioning of the school environment, including master scheduling, teaching assignments, College Credit Plus, and student awards (e.g. Honor Roll, Latin Honors, etc.)
Climate and Culture all matters pertaining to the school''s Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (P.B.I.S.), Student Code of Conduct, student attendance, and safety drills
OTHER DUTIES
