Assistant Principal
Reports to: Principal of Assigned School
Overview of Position:
Plans, organizes and implements all curricular and administrative functions of the school to provide the best possible support for the educational services with the resources available. These functions may include, at the discretion of the principal, curriculum, parent communication, scheduling, main office management, school discipline and safety, student transportation, and facilities. The Assistant Principal is represented by the Leominster School Administrative Unit (Unit B), reports directly to principal, evaluates and supervises all professional staff and support staff.
Major Responsibilities:
- Manages and prepares, in coordination with the principal, the school schedule, staff duty assignments and the preparation of monthly and annual school activities calendars.
- Coordinates the enforcement of student discipline policies, including school's no tolerance policy on drugs and weapons, and monitors all safety and security concerns.
- Assists the principal in preparing and delivering professional development and teacher staff and curriculum meetings.
- Analyzes State and District data, and works with classroom teachers on implementation of instructional strategies consistent with that data to result in improved student performance.
- Supervises organizes and disseminates all testing materials and analyzes all mandated state and district testing data. Works with all staff on implementation of instructional strategies consistent with the data to result in improved student performance.
- Monitors the operation of the main office.
- Coordinates the administration of school attendance policies.
- Supervises and evaluates staff; teachers, paraprofessionals, tutors, secretaries, custodians, and aides; splitting all staff in half with principal; working to ensure excellence in instruction and on-going improvement in instructional practices.
- Coordinates the general upkeep and condition of the facility, and the use and rental of the facility.
- Coordinates, with the Bus Company and central office, all bus routes, student use and violation of bus policies.
- Serves as Acting or Temporary Principal at the request and discretion of the Principal or Superintendent of Schools.
- Performs (other) duties as required or assigned by the Principal such as: TAT and 504 Coordinators, School Council, PTO, Assessment Team, Substitute Caller, and several night and weekend events as required.
Education, Certifications, Skills and Experience
- Certified or certifiable as Principal/Assistant Principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Master's degree
- Teaching experience
- Three years school administration/instructional leadership
- Demonstrated organizational, educational leadership and creative problem solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable

- Ability to work under the pressure of multiple simultaneous tasks, including the ability to prioritize, manage and organize own workload.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, parents and other citizens and representatives of organizations.
- Participative work style; ability to give and receive feedback.
Evaluation of Performance, Terms of Employment and Salary: Evaluation, terms of employment and salary are governed by the provisions of the Agreement currently in effect with the Leominster Administrative Unit (Unit B).
Salary commensurate with related experience.
