Elementary Assistant Principal William E. Norris School Hampshire Regional School District
Position Summary The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in providing instructional leadership, fostering a positive school culture, promoting student achievement, and ensuring the safe and effective operation of the school. The Assistant Principal collaborates with faculty, staff, students, families, and the community to create an inclusive learning environment that supports the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and developmental needs of all students.

Qualifications Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Principal/Assistant Principal (PreK-6 or appropriate level). Master''s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field. Successful teaching experience at the elementary level. Administrative experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, MTSS, and inclusive practices. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Certification in de-escalation/restraint training
Essential Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Support the implementation of district curriculum, instructional initiatives, and school improvement goals. Conduct classroom observations and provide timely, constructive feedback to educators. Participate in the Massachusetts Educator Evaluation process. Support the use of assessment data to improve instruction and student outcomes. Promote inclusive practices, differentiation, and equitable access to grade-level curriculum for all learners.
Student Support Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive school climate. Coordinate student behavioral supports using restorative and developmentally appropriate practices. Collaborate with teachers, counselors, school psychologists, special educators, interventionists, EL staff, and related service providers to support student success. Participate in MTSS, Student Support Team, Section 504, and IEP meetings as appropriate. Monitor attendance and support interventions to improve student engagement.
School Operations Assist in the daily management and supervision of school operations. Coordinate arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other school-wide supervision. Assist in developing schedules and supervising assigned staff. Support emergency preparedness, safety drills, crisis response, and school security procedures. Ensure compliance with district policies, DESE regulations, and applicable laws.
Family and Community Engagement Develop and maintain positive relationships with families and community partners. Communicate effectively regarding student progress, behavioral concerns, and school initiatives. Support family engagement activities and school events. Collaborate with the PTO and other community organizations to enhance the educational experience.
Professional Responsibilities Model professionalism, integrity, and ethical leadership. Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment. Participate in district leadership meetings and ongoing professional development. Contribute to continuous school improvement efforts. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of elementary curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Educator Evaluation System. Experience with MTSS, inclusive practices, and special education regulations. Ability to analyze data and use it to guide school improvement. Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to build collaborative relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout the school building and grounds throughout the workday. Ability to respond quickly to student, staff, and emergency situations. Ability to perform supervisory duties indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Massachusetts Model System for Educator Evaluation and Hampshire Regional School District''s administrative evaluation procedures.
