Position Summary

The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in providing instructional leadership and operational management to ensure high levels of student achievement and a safe, positive learning environment. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with staff, students, families, and the community to promote academic excellence, continuous improvement, and the overall success of the school. Responsibilities include supporting curriculum implementation, staff development, student discipline, school operations, and the effective use of data to improve teaching and learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote a school culture where student learning is the highest priority and high expectations exist for all students
  • Support the implementation and alignment of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study through effective instructional and assessment practices
  • Assist teachers in designing instruction based on ongoing progress monitoring, including differentiation, intervention, acceleration, and re-teaching strategies
  • Monitor and support the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
  • Facilitate and support Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and collaborative planning structures
  • Encourage and support the integration of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning
  • Lead staff in analyzing multiple sources of student data to identify trends, determine root causes, and develop targeted interventions
  • Assist teachers in using formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and improve instruction
  • Communicate student performance data through reports, charts, and presentations as needed
  • Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the School Improvement Plan/Continuous Improvement Plan
  • Identify operational and instructional areas for improvement and assist in developing effective procedures and systems
  • Support professional learning opportunities aligned with school and district goals
  • Remain informed of current educational research, instructional best practices, and state initiatives
  • Communicate and model the vision, mission, and beliefs of Macon County Schools
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders
  • Establish and communicate clear expectations for professional conduct and student support
  • Assist with resolving operational and instructional concerns in a collaborative and professional manner
  • Support teachers in developing measurable goals focused on improving student achievement
  • Conduct formal and informal classroom observations and provide timely, constructive feedback to staff
  • Assist with the implementation of the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System in accordance with district and state guidelines
  • Support teachers in designing engaging and rigorous learning experiences for students
  • Assist in organizing and managing school operations, schedules, resources, and procedures that support learning and teaching
  • Coordinate and monitor assessment and testing procedures
  • Assist in implementing student discipline procedures that promote a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Monitor school safety procedures and ensure the welfare of students and staff
  • Support facility operations and maintenance to ensure safe and effective learning environments
  • Assist with organizing extracurricular activities and student events
  • Assist the Principal in developing and monitoring school budgets in accordance with district and state guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations
  • Support school improvement efforts and organizational change initiatives focused on continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Valid North Carolina Educational Leadership license or certification
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience
  • Previous administrative or leadership experience preferred

  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement practices
  • Understanding of North Carolina Standard Course of Study and state accountability requirements
  • Knowledge of MTSS processes and data-driven instructional practices
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders
  • Ability to analyze and interpret student achievement and operational data
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and support professional growth

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout school buildings and campus facilities
  • Ability to supervise students in indoor and outdoor environments
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Frequent standing, walking, and participation in school activities and events
