Assistant Production Manager

Pay Rate:$85,000–$90,000/year; Based on experience
Location:Schenectady, NY (On-site)
Employment Type:Direct Hire
Schedule:Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–4:30 PM; Friday, 7:00 AM–11:00 AM

Experience: Must have 3–5 years of manufacturing or fabrication experience
Skills: Ability to read engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation required

Our growing client is seeking an Assistant Production Manager to support daily manufacturing operations and help drive production efficiency, quality, and safety. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated manufacturing professional looking to grow into a Production Manager role through hands-on training, mentorship, and increased leadership responsibility.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Production Manager will include:

  • Assist with coordinating daily production operations to meet quality, safety, and delivery goals
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for production employees and support operations in the absence of the Production Manager
  • Monitor workflow, labor utilization, and production schedules to maximize efficiency
  • Ensure products are manufactured according to engineering drawings, customer specifications, and company quality standards
  • Learn and support compliance with manufacturing requirements, quality procedures, and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and Shipping to resolve production issues and improve workflow
  • Assist with employee training, coaching, and workforce development
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction
  • Monitor production metrics, including throughput, efficiency, scrap, rework, and on-time delivery
  • Promote compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
  • Support inventory control, production planning, scheduling, customer inspections, and quality audits

Qualifications for the role of Assistant Production Manager:

Required:

  • 3–5 years of manufacturing or fabrication experience
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Willingness to learn manufacturing requirements and industry best practices

Preferred:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Operations Management, or a related field
  • Previous supervisory or team lead experience
  • Experience in industrial equipment manufacturing
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement initiatives
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems
