    Position Summary:

    The Department of Sociology and Criminology at Arkansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminology position beginning in Fall 2027. A Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field is required; applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. Area of specialization is open, although the ability to teach courses within the program's core requirements will be given priority. The ability and willingness to teach in both in-person and online formats is preferred.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Regular responsibilities include teaching, research, advising and mentoring students, as well as engaging in service at the university, disciplinary, and community levels. The standard teaching load at Arkansas State is 12 credit hours per semester, but there is commonly a semester course release provided for research for pre-tenure faculty. Teaching assignments will include undergraduate courses in criminology and may include graduate-level courses. The successful candidate will teach core courses consistent with program needs while also teaching courses in their areas of expertise and interest.

The department offers a well-rounded curriculum to more than 300 majors in its BA programs in Criminology and Sociology. The department offers a B.A. in Criminology in both traditional and fully online formats, as well as a B.A. in Sociology and an M.A. in Sociology.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    An earned Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field is required for this position; applications nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered
