The Department of Art, Art History and Design seeks a dynamic, versatile artist to teach core studio skills and concepts as they relate to multiple areas of contemporary art and design. Focus will be on teaching darkroom and digital photography. This position will be responsible for overseeing the darkroom on the Knight Campus in Warwick.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach required darkroom and digital photography courses (including Darkroom Photography I & II and Digital Photography I & II).

  • Manage the department darkroom. This includes (but is not limited to) training and overseeing student darkroom monitors, performing and/or coordinating the maintenance and repair of darkroom equipment, and ensuring the proper storage, usage, and disposal of all photographic chemicals.

  • Assist with management of department printers, including training, maintenance, and calibration of large format and photo inkjet printers.

  • Actively participate in committee work, curriculum development, and student advising as a member of a department that values collaboration, shared leadership, and community engagement.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college, that serves a diverse community of learners with a broad range of learning styles, cultures, identities, and life experiences.

  • Engage in passionate, student-centered instruction while making use of technology to enhance classroom effectiveness and communication.

  • Be willing to travel and teach at multi-campus locations as required by the department

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.F.A. with a concentration in Photography or related media.

  • Minimum of two semesters teaching experience at the college level as the teacher of record (TA/GA experience will not qualify).

  • Have a record of teaching excellence in both darkroom and digital photo courses demonstrated by outstanding student work that exemplifies core skills and concepts.

  • Experience managing an academic darkroom, including staffing, equipment maintenance, and the storage and disposal of black and white photo chemicals.

  • Experience managing and administering large format and photo inkjet printers including training, maintenance, and calibration.

  • Demonstrate a robust practical knowledge of analogue and digital studio practices with a strong theoretical knowledge of past, current, and emerging practices.

  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.

  • Experience with curriculum development, program planning, and/or outcomes assessment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Community College teaching experience.

  • Evidence of an equitable and inclusive approach to studio and classroom practice (including critique and curriculum development).

  • Experience teaching digital art, video, and/or other photo-adjacent media courses.
