Primary Purpose of Department -----------------------------

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a states urban R1 University, offers over 32,000 students a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The University is located in one of the New Souths most beautiful cities. With a population of 2 million in its metropolitan region, there is a vast array of cultural and recreational opportunities and outstanding medical and community services to meet the varied interests and needs of its community members. The University is within the bounds of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), one of the largest urban school districts in the country. In addition to CMS, there are a variety of school districts and community agencies located in the area that are valued partners and collaborators with the College. With CAEP accreditation, the Cato College of Education serves undergraduate and graduate programs, including five doctoral programs, and has one of the largest teacher education programs in North Carolina.

Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development ---------------------------------------------------------

Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to:

• Subject matter competence
• Course design
• Course presentation
• Advising and consultation
• Directing student research
• Curriculum and instructional development
• Grading student work

Scholarly Research, Creative and Other Professional Activities ---------------------------------------------------------

All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of their academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty members discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to:

• Research and creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge
• Publication
• An on-going agenda for research
• Scholarly and creative activity
• Seeking extramural support for their work

Service to University, the Public, and the Profession ---------------------------------------------------

All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to:

• Service to the administration and governance of the University
• Public service
• Service to the profession

Essential Duties and Responsibilities --------------------------------------

The ideal candidate is expected to maintain high scholarly productivity in research consistent with the Universitys R1 status related to Elementary Education. The candidate is also expected to seek external funds to support research activities, teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid, collaborate with community partners on education initiatives, and provide service to the University and their profession.

Minimum Experience ------------------

Education ------------

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education:

• Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. or earned doctorate by the employment start date in Elementary Education or closely related field from an accredited university required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current issues in urban elementary education, including instructional design and assessment, instructional differentiation, and leadership skills for 21st-century learners, critical thinking, creativity, effective communication, and digital savviness.
• Demonstrated successful teaching experience in K-6 or related settings with 2 years minimum.
• Evidence of efficacy in teaching face-to-face and online.

Preferred Qualifications ----------------------

• Grant-writing experience.
• Strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Experience in collaborative community partnerships across disciplines within or beyond a college of education.
• Strong commitment to the mission of the University, College, and Department.

3. One to two research articles that are data-based publications that illustrate the applicants research focus and methodological approaches.
4. Two pieces of evidence of teaching efficacy, e.g., course evaluations, teaching award descriptions, letter from someone with direct knowledge of teaching practice, etc.
