Position Summary

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Central Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics starting Fall 2026. We are seeking a candidate dedicated to teaching who also demonstrates a clear potential for research and a commitment to service. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

A faculty member in Mathematics typically will have 12 hours of teaching load in each Fall and Spring semester. The faculty member will be expected to teach a variety of mathematics courses as well as lower-division service courses (E.g. Calculus and Elementary Statistics). Currently, most classes are in person, but some are occasionally offered online to meet the needs of our students.

Our faculty are expected to strive to improve their teaching, maintain an active research program leading to peer-reviewed publications, and be willing to involve students in their research. In addition, participation in departmental, college, and community service is an essential expectation of the role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

In addition to possessing strong analytical skills, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to deliver effective instruction and assess student performance, as well as engage both undergraduate and graduate students in research. Familiarity in designing and organizing courses, interdisciplinary collaboration experience, and grant writing skills would be beneficial.

Required Education and/or Experience

The position requires a Doctorate (PhD) in Mathematics or a closely related field. Candidates with specializations in applied mathematics, data science, or statistics are strongly encouraged to apply.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

Prior teaching experience at the university level is preferred, including teaching assistantships, guest lectures, or teaching positions.

A strong background in conducting original research focusing on applied mathematics, engineering, statistics, and/or data science is preferred, e.g. publication in a reputable journal, conference, poster presentation, etc.
