Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working closely with the Maui Medical Education Lead Physician, serve as a liaison between John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) and Maui County-based healthcare institutions, including Maui Memorial Medical Center/Maui Health System, community clinics, and private practices, regarding clinical rotation requirements.
• May serve as a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) tutor/facilitator for first-and second-year medical students participating in the JABSOM curriculum.
• Mentor and advise preclinical and clinical medical students.
• Participate in other teaching activities depending on qualifications and school needs.
• Actively participate in JABSOM faculty development activities to promote their growth as a medical educator and role model for medical learners.
• Actively participates in UME (Undergraduate Medical Education) program educational and administrative activities, including, but not limited to, academic half-day sessions (e.g., provide periodic lectures or workshops), or JABSOM-related community medicine or population health activities.
• In collaboration with the JABSOM Maui Medical Education Lead Physician, the Office of the Designated Institutional Official, and the Office of Medical Education leaders, helps verify the quality of clinical and educational experiences for residents and medical students.
• May serve in a formal educational administrative role as determined by JABSOM.
• Participate in periodic travel to O?ahu for faculty professional development or curriculum retreats.
• Engageinscholarlyactivities,whichmayincludequalityimprovement,patientsafety,policy research, publication, presentations, and grant writing related to medical education, clinical practice, or community health, particularly focusing on Neighbor Island needs.
• Participate in JABSOM, University, and relevant community committees as assigned or appropriate.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications:

• M.D./D.O. degree from an LCME/AOA (Liaison Committee on Medical Education/American Osteopathic Association) accredited medical school.
• American Board of Medical Specialties certification at hire.
• Current licensure in Hawai?i at hire.
• Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively meet, interact, and confer with others.
• Ability to establish networks with professionals in other fields and to work/interact effectively with others.

Desirable Qualifications:

• A minimum of two years of full-time professional activity in the clinical specialty and have had teaching experience in a medical school or residency program.
• Prior experience with networking and advocacy for improved health of rural or underserved populations.
