Description

Provide 32 hours of instruction weekly in both classroom and practical settings. The instructors' major functions are to assist with teaching an appropriate, assigned Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning education program. This will be done through the facilitation of a positive learning environment (lecture, group, or individual) targeting a diverse population, resulting in the successful completion of the program while earning industry recognized credentials of value. The instructor will maintain a safe learning environment for all students. Administration of the learning process (teaching) is to be accomplished in accordance with Federal regulation, Florida State Law, and Florida Gateway College Board Policies. The primary responsibility of an Instructor at FGC is to the students in the classroom. In addition, the instructor will be expected to participate in school and department meetings, recruiting events, college events, assist with the advisory board as needed, and maintain strong relationships with industry.

Knowledge and Experience in the HVAC industry, to include commercial and residential.

Be able to effectively communicate with students and all other stakeholders.

Engages in continuous professional quality development for self and school.

Uses appropriate techniques and strategies, which promote and enhance critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities of students.

Adheres to Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida.

Creates and maintains positive learning environments in which students are actively engaged in learning, social interaction, cooperative learning and self-motivation.

Works with various educational professionals and other stakeholders in the continuous improvement of the educational experiences of students.

Uses appropriate technology in the teaching and learning process.

Utilize workplace language and behavior expectations in the shop and classroom; on a routine basis, inquire if individual students need assistance.

Other functions as specified in applicable policies/procedures and the Faculty Handbook.

Assists with the oversight of an advisory board.

Maintains and fosters strong relationships with industry representatives.

Assists with the recruitment, retention, advising and when possible, career placement of students.

Attends college and community events to represent and promote the HVAC program.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of approved post secondary education level HVAC program or a combination of work experience, license, or

training.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).

Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Physical capacity to attend, coordinate and at times oversee the proficiency portions of the curriculum.

Use of fingers.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDlTIONS:

Works inside and outside, to include both an office/classroom environment as well as outdoor locations such as the driving pad.
