    The University of Florida (UF) Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure accruing position in Remote Sensing of Earth and Planetary Systems at the Assistant Professor level. Advanced remotely sensed geophysical data (e.g., gravity, laser, radar, GNSS, magnetic, imaging spectroscopy, imaging/stereo imaging) collected with ground-, air-, and space-based sensors are essential to studies of terrestrial and/or planetary processes and properties, including the cryosphere, geodynamics, climate, the chemistry/mineralogy of surfaces, and impacts on Earth and other planets.

    Job Description:

    We expect the successful candidate to establish a strong externally funded research program that includes mentoring graduate students and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in their area of expertise and contribute courses supporting and/or developing degree programs in Geophysics, Astrobiology and Planetary Science, and the UF AI Certificate. We are particularly interested in candidates who will engage in interdisciplinary research with the Department, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and/or University of Florida, e.g. the Astraeus Space Institute, and with the potential to participate in current or future airborne or space missions.

    The Department of Geological Sciences  resides in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Department faculty members have broad expertise in Earth and Planetary Sciences, including geophysics, paleoclimatology, volcanology, petrology, tectonics, hydrology, geomorphology, sedimentology, marine geology, biogeochemistry, astrobiology, paleontology, and geoscience education among others. Available resources include state-of-the-art departmental Research Facilities, the Nanoscale Research Center, the UF Water Institute , the HiPerGator supercomputer and the UF AI Informatics Research Institute . Additionally, the UF Astraeus Space Institute supports and connects researchers in space science across the state. Astraeus also offers access to an on-campus Missions Operations Center for supporting in-space activities and missions.

    Expected Salary:

    The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

    Required Qualifications:

    PhD or equivalent or have completed the PhD requirements by August 16, 2027.
