Position Summary:

The position of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Generalist is to provide specialized care in the treatment of women's health conditions, focusing on pregnancy, childbirth, and the female reproductive system, providing comprehensive medical care throughout various life stages. The role involves clinical practice, surgical management and educational responsibilities.

Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities):

  • Provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care across the patient life cycle, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, gynecologic preventive care, family planning, and menopausal management.
  • Manage prenatal care for low- to moderate-risk pregnancies; collaborate with specialists for high-risk cases.
  • Perform gynecologic procedures (e.g., IUD placement/removal, Pap/colposcopy, office-based ultrasound, minor in-office procedures, laparoscopic/minimally invasive gynecologic procedures as applicable).
  • Deliver inpatient obstetric services, including labor and delivery coverage, when required; participate in on-call rotation per department policy.
  • Counsel patients on fertility, contraception, prenatal screening, and lifestyle factors affecting pregnancy outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record; ensure coding accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Lead and participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and evidence-based practice changes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (nursing, anesthesia, neonatal, social work, lactation consultants, and primary care) to optimize patient care.
  • Participate in teaching and supervision of residents, medical students, or allied health professionals as applicable.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, case conferences, and community outreach activities.
  • Contribute to academic activities, including didactic lectures, curriculum development, and simulation training for residents and medical students.
  • Engage in consistent record of positive classroom contributions to include instruction, innovative teaching, and course development for teaching both undergraduate and graduate trainees.
  • Serve as preceptor for mentoring and advising students and residents.
  • Monitoring and participate in the evaluation of students and residents during their training in obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Participate in serving on institutional, departmental and school academic committees, curriculum development and supervision and interviewing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Active, unrestricted medical license
  • Ability to obtain credentialing with the affiliated hospital(s).
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in obstetrics and gynecology with a commitment to patient-centered care.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and teaching skills.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and patient communication
  • Proficiency in vaginal delivery, cesarean delivery, and common gynecologic surgeries.
  • Ability to manage high-risk pregnancies and complex gynecologic conditions.
  • Proficiency in minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic/robotic)
  • Ultrasound competency (prenatal and gynecologic)
  • Teaching, mentorship, and residency leadership experience.

Education and Experience Required:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school with completion of ACGME-accredited OB/GYN residency program
  • DEA certification

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Additional fellowship training in subspecialties (e.g., Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Urogynecology)
