Hobart and William Smith Colleges invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology position in Cell Biology, specializing in eukaryotic systems, to begin July 1, 2027. We welcome candidates whose work intersects genetics, molecular biology, and other aspects of eukaryotic cell function. This is a full-time position with a teaching load of five courses distributed across two semesters. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and will develop an active, undergraduate-focused research program.
Teaching responsibilities will include Genetics with lab and an upper-level Cell Biology course with lab. The candidate will have the opportunity to make other contributions to the biology curriculum as well as the general undergraduate curriculum. The five-course teaching load typically consists of two lecture courses with associated labs and one lecture-only course.
The new faculty member will be provided with start-up funds to establish their research program and have office and research lab space in the newly constructed Fish Center for the Sciences. The Fish Center will contain modern teaching and research facilities, including cell culture and microscopy facilities, a vivarium, and a greenhouse. In addition to research space, the Colleges have a robust summer science program that provides support for student research opportunities in faculty-led projects. The salary range for this position is $69,360 - $73,605
