Assistant Professor of Cellular and Molecular Biology

The Department of Biological Sciences at Boise State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in Cellular and Molecular Biology. We are seeking candidates who share our commitment to research and teaching. The new hire will be expected to develop an externally funded research program that supports graduate student training. The new hire will contribute to existing courses or develop new courses within their expertise, including experiential learning opportunities. We offer dedicated laboratory space, start-up funds and access to shared instrumentation and core facilities. Graduate student assistantships in interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs in Biomolecular Sciences and in Computing are available to support the mentoring of Ph.D. students.

This position is part of Boise State University''s interdisciplinary Biomolecular Sciences Cluster Hire Initiative, with open positions in the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. The goal is to support a cohort of scientists with the potential to create new interdisciplinary research collaborations, support graduate education and the growth of doctoral programs, position Boise State for long-term research distinction, and build on existing institutional strengths.

In addition to describing the funding potential of planned research, candidates should describe the potential for their research to contribute to at least one of the existing or emerging areas of interdisciplinary strength at Boise State University, including Matrix Biology COBRE, the Convergent Engineering and Biomolecular Science (CEBS) COBRE, Healthy Idaho Clinical and Translational Research (CTR-D) Program, Food and Dairy Innovation Center, Neuroscience, Cancer Research, or Quantum Information Science. Applicants should also discuss how their research could leverage Boise State''s shared instrumentation, core facilities (BRCF and FaCT Cores), and collaborative research infrastructure, including resources available through the Biomedical Research Institute, while also contributing to a collaborative environment that advances scientific discovery, graduate education, and externally funded research.

The Department of Biological Sciences at Boise State University holds a strong commitment to research, teaching and service. Our department serves over 600 students majoring in biology, and many more students taking biology courses for other degree programs. We share teaching experiences and strategies in order to improve the experiences of our students. Our faculty members contribute to several graduate programs at the PhD and Masters level and we take pride in mentoring our graduate students within these programs. Our department is committed to the success of our faculty and provides both informal and formal mentoring to support career development. Research in our department spans all levels of biological sciences creating numerous opportunities for collaboration and growth. In addition, our faculty frequently collaborate with faculty across the University and at other institutions. The Department of Biological Sciences offers a flexible workload policy that allows a balance of research and teaching that is appropriate for career stage and interests. Faculty with high levels of research activity typically teach the equivalent of 1 class each semester (1:1 teaching workload). In the first year, faculty are typically offered a reduced teaching and service workload.

Faculty have access to a state-of-the-art rodent vivarium and zebrafish facility, the Biomolecular Research Core (BRC), shared spaces in the Department of Biological Sciences, and additional core facilities across campus. Two distinct NIH funded Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), one in Matrix Biology and one in Convergent Engineering and Biomolecular Sciences (CEBS), are located within the Biomedical Research Institute. Research core facilities have full-time dedicated staff to maintain instrumentation, provide training, and perform services.

Minimum qualifications:

• A PhD in a field related to the Biological Sciences

Preferred qualifications:

• A record of research accomplishment appropriate to the candidate's career stage, including peer-reviewed publications and experience pursuing extramural funding.

• Experience mentoring undergraduate students, graduate students, or postdoctoral researchers.

• A promising research agenda with potential for NIH or other extramural funding.

• Research that aligns with one or more of the interdisciplinary research strengths described in the position overview.

• Potential to use and contribute to Boise State's CORE facilities.

• Evidence of effective teaching and a commitment to continued growth as an instructor.

• Evidence of effective student mentoring and support for student learning.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary: The 9-month academic year salary ranges from $75,000 to $80,000.

Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
