Requirements:
Must be an M.D,D.O., or PhDwho is Board Certifiedin Clinical Pathologyor BoardCertified in a Clinical Pathology subspecialty, or aPhDwho is fellowship trained and with professionalBoardor Certification for their subspecialty (i.e. hematology, immunology, chemistry and microbiology).
Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Floridaor have a Laboratory Director’s license in the State of Florida in their subspecialty (i.e. hematology, immunology, chemistry and microbiology).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge ingeneralLaboratory Medicine (Clinical Pathology), and in the subspecialty of practice.
Ability to enhance communication and relations in a diverse professional work force.
Experience with methods, tools and measurements for quality improvement to improve work processes using a team-based model.
Knowledge of regulations and standards of JCAHO, CAP and CLIA.
Ability to work independently and make reliable recommendations and diagnoses as definitive in the care and treatment of patients.
Knowledge of all hospital and service procedures and policies regarding hazardous material management, biohazard exposure and the use of universal precaution.
List of Responsibilities:
Follow CLIA regulation.As laboratory director or delegee or designeeas applicable,ensure that:
Testing systems in the laboratory provide quality services in allaspects of test performance, i.e., thepreanalytic, analytic, andpostanalyticphases of testing and are appropriate forthepatientpopulation;
Physical and environmental conditions of the laboratory are adequateand appropriate for the testingperformed;
The environment for employees is safe from physical, chemical, andbiological hazards and safety and biohazard requirements arefollowed;
Ageneral supervisor (high complexity testing) is available to provideday-to-day supervision of all testing personnel and reporting of testresults as well as provide on-site supervision for specific minimallyqualified testing personnel when they are performing highcomplexitytesting;
Sufficient numbers ofappropriately educated, experienced, and/ortrained personnel who provide appropriate consultation, properlysupervise, and accurately perform tests and report test results inaccordance with the written duties and responsibilities specified byyou, are employed by the laboratory
New test procedures are reviewed, included in the procedure manualand followed by personnel; andeach employee’s responsibilities and duties are specified in writing.
Ensure that all delegated responsibilities are performed
Be accessible to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation
Ensure that remedial actions are taken and documented
Make certain that personnel are trained to ensure accurate results
Ensure that an approved procedure manual for the clinical laboratoryis available
Maintain JCAHO/CAP/CLIAor other relevantaccreditationsas applicable
Participate in theeducational curriculum inclinicalpathologyfor residents,fellows, and medical students
Participateinutilization of laboratory testingor services
Developand participate inDiagnostic Management Teams
Academically productive with scholarly activities
