Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Psychology has 43 full-time faculty members (33 tenure-track) and serves more than 1,400 undergraduate majors and 90 graduate students across four graduate programs: Psychological Science MA, Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management MA, School Psychology MA/SSP, and Clinical Psychology PsyD. Faculty are afforded the opportunity to teach summer courses for supplementary income and engage in external activities for up to one day per week, which many clinical faculty use for consultation or private practice endeavors. The Department aims to guide and support new junior faculty, specifically by limiting service requirements, minimizing new course preparations and teaching workload in the first year, and ongoing mentoring throughout the tenure process. The department is dedicated to the mission and strategic plan of the university and to creating a nurturing community that welcomes, respects, and supports all constituents. Additional information about the Department of Psychology, the University, and the surrounding area is located on the Psychology website.
The Department proudly offers a Clinical Psychology Psy.D. program that embraces a scholar-practitioner philosophy and a small cohort, mentor match model. We provide assistantship funding to all students for four years. This program is specifically designed to develop empirically-informed clinical psychologists who are prepared to serve as generalists in rural areas. We offer a rigorous program of study and are committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based training. The program is currently accredited by APA on contingency, with the application for full accreditation to be submitted in 2026.
