    Position Overview

    Position Summary:

    Eastern New Mexico University's Criminal Justice program seeks applications for a full-time position beginning in January 2027. Appointment will be at a rank commensurate with academic training and experience. Review of applications will begin immediately; the position will remain open until filled. This is a residential appointment in a collegial department with a supportive campus culture, and campus presence is required. ENMU seeks candidates committed to excellent undergraduate education and student success within the framework of the teacher-scholar model.

    Desired areas of concentration may include, but are not limited to: victimization, criminal investigations, juvenile justice, expertise in substantive criminal and procedural law, and social aspects of criminal justice (e.g. ethics; police & society) to supplement strong program emphases in Law Enforcement and Criminology in a major with close ties to the Sociology program.

    Requirements

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Teach 4 undergraduate course sections (12-hour load) each semester in face-to-face, lecture capture, and/or web platforms. Course load includes lower- and upper-division coursework in consultation with departmental colleagues.
    • Expectations for scholarship and service will be commensurate with rank. Faculty are required to serve the department and the institution, mentor student research, and remain current and active in the profession. Tenure-track faculty should maintain a consistent record of scholarly research that includes publications and presentations in peer-reviewed venues.
    • Development of new curriculum and assessment to support program learning outcomes.
    • Provide advising for undergraduate students (residential and distance students)
    • Contract is for Nine (9) months. Additional summer contracts may be available, based on department need.

    • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned and/or as outlined in the Faculty Handbook

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or related discipline preferred for tenure-track position teaching undergraduate courses at all levels; ABD with completion date by Spring 2027 will be considered.
    • JD, MA, or MS with substantial professional and/or university-level teaching experience noted above may be considered for a renewable three-year Instructor position. Higher-education teaching experience and/or related career experience is highly desirable.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Ability to teach introductory and advanced coursework in Criminal Justice and related areas in Sociology, as determined by program, Ability to develop courses in areas such as Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Procedural Law, Immigration (law and social aspects), Criminal Investigations, Police/Community Relations, Counter-terrorism and/or Introduction to Criminal Justice.
    • Applicants must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and commitment to excellence in teaching students of diverse backgrounds.

    • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

    Paid Time OffFaculty will receive 5 personal days a year and 48 hours a semester for sick leave.

    Employee Educational Assistance Plan

    Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for three courses (up to nine credit hours) per semester. Employees spouses or children may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
