    The Machining/Manufacturing Assistant Professor is a skilled and motivated educator with expertise in both manual and CNC machining and design processes. This position involves delivering lecture and hands-on instruction for the Associate of Applied Science and Certificate of Completion programs in machining and manufacturing, as well as certifications and short-term training offerings. The instructor will collaborate with adjunct faculty and concurrent enrollment programs and maintain strong industry partnerships to ensure program relevance and student success.

    Sheridan College instructors are expected to use learner-centered teaching methods, contribute to institutional committees, and foster a collegial and student-focused learning environment. Evening and weekend instruction may be required.

    Reports To Dean of CTE Education/Qualifications

    • Associate degree in Machine Tool Technology or related degrees. Consideration will be given to individuals without a degree but with extensive skills-based experience.
    • A minimum of 4 - 12 years of documented skills-based experience in the machining industry.
    • An equivalent combination of education, industry certifications, and progressively responsible experience may be considered.
    • Demonstrated commitment to technical education and the community college mission.

    Education & Experience Combinations (Based on Degree Type)

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

    • Hands‑on Machining Experience: 6 years

    • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Machine Tool

    • Hands‑on Machining Experience: 4 years

    • Machine Tool Certificate

    • Hands‑on Machining Experience: 5 years

    • High School Diploma

    • Hands‑on Machining Experience: 12 years

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Ability to teach a range of machine tooling and manufacturing related courses.
    • Strong commitment to technical education and the community college mission.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
    • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Openness to new teaching methods and industry trends.
    • Responsiveness to local workforce needs.
    • Expertise in manual and CNC machining, CAD/CAM software, 3D printing, and other standard manufacturing equipment and software.
    • Preferred experience with SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion, and Mastercam.
    • Familiarity with metallurgy, technical print reading, design, and precision measurement.
    • Experience with Canvas Learning Management System software and instructional technology preferred.

    Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

    • Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
    • Demonstrate safe operation of power tools, machining equipment, and heavy equipment.
    • Bend, kneel, crawl, squat, climb ladders, and reach overhead.
    • Stand and walk for extended periods
    • Wear required PPE.
    • Instruction may occur during evenings, weekends and outside faculty contract days.
    • Work environments include classrooms, machining/manufacturing shops, and office settings.
    • Some travel may be required

    Job Duties

    These are the job duties for required of the position.

    Percentage of time 100 Responsibility/Duty

    Instructional Duties

    • Deliver classroom and lab/shop instruction in machining technologies.
    • Develop and implement curriculum aligned with industry standards.
    • Provide comprehensive safety training to students, enforce and maintain safety compliant practices, and conduct routine safety inspections of teaching spaces.
    • Promptly report accidents/incidents, unsafe conditions, and safety documentation to appropriate college official.
    • Maintain instructional equipment and facilities, including ensuring that machine guards and safety devices are functioning properly.
    • Order and manage supplies and instructional materials.
    • Organize field trips to machining/manufacturing operations.
    • Ensure program content remains current and relevant to industry needs.
    • Participate in program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, and maintain documentation for accreditation.

    Industry and Community Engagement

    • Build and maintain relationships with local businesses and industry partners.
    • Establish and lead advisory committees with industry representation.

    Student Support

    • Advise and recruit students for the machining/manufacturing programs.
    • Monitor student academic progress and refer students to tutoring and student support services as appropriate.
    • Maintain regular office hours and respond promptly to student communications..
    • Support student organizations such as SkillsUSA.
    • Mentor students toward employment opportunities.

    Institutional Service

    • Serve on college and departmental committees.
    • Participate in scholarly activities that enhance the college's reputation.
    • Contribute to the campus community and culture.
