PURPOSE Lincoln University invites applications for a full-time nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics position. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, a commitment to mentoring a diverse student population, and the potential to establish a productive research program that engages undergraduate students. As Missouris only public historically Black college/university (HBCU), Lincoln University seeks faculty who are dedicated to inclusive excellence, student success, and expanding participation in STEM fields among underrepresented populations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Teach undergraduate physics courses including algebra-based and calculus-based introductory physics.
  • Teach upper-level courses consistent with expertise (e.g., mechanics, electricity & magnetism, modern physics, optics, computational physics, etc.).
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Integrate innovative and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Seek external funding where appropriate and develop an active research agenda involving undergraduate students.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain regular office hours and provide academic advising and mentoring.
  • Develop and update curriculum and laboratory experiences.
  • Opportunities to teach interdisciplinary courses in pre-engineering, chemistry, and mathematics.
  • Contribute to initiatives and programs within the department.

QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

  • Ability to teach a broad variety of related courses.
  • Experience in various pedagogical teaching techniques in physics is a plus.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student and faculty body is desired.

Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related area required - ABDs considered.
  • Post-doctoral experience and prior teaching experience is a plus.
