Marquette University's Department of Finance invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice to serve as Academic Coordinator of the CFP Board Registered financial planning concentration. This position provides academic leadership for the financial planning program while contributing to the Finance Department's commitment to experiential learning and industry engagement. The successful candidate will be an accomplished educator with expertise in financial planning, dedicated to student success and the advancement of the financial planning profession.
Duties and Responsibilities
The standard teaching load is 21 credit hours per academic year for candidates without a terminal degree. A reduced load of 18 credit hours per academic year will be considered for candidates who hold a terminal degree, or who are ABDs in advanced dissertation stages, and maintain an active research agenda. This is a 9-month position with opportunities for summer teaching for overload compensation.
Primary responsibilities center on teaching, student advising, and curriculum design, including:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in financial planning, including retirement planning, estate planning, tax planning, investment planning, and risk management
- Advise and mentor financial planning students on academic progress, course planning, and career pathways in the financial planning profession
- Design, develop, and continuously update curriculum for the financial planning concentration to ensure alignment with CFP Board education requirements and evolving industry standards
- Assess student learning outcomes and contribute to program-level assessment and accreditation efforts
As Academic Coordinator of the financial planning program, the position carries additional responsibilities including:
- Oversee day-to-day administration of the CFP Board Registered financial planning concentration, ensuring ongoing compliance with CFP Board education requirements
- Coordinate with faculty and administration on course scheduling and program continuous improvement
- Participate in departmental, college, and university committees, events, and student support activities (e.g., learning assessment, internship and career liaison activities, prospective student visits)
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Master's degree in Financial Planning, Finance, or a closely related field from an AACSB-accredited institution
- CFP certification in good standing
- Evidence of effective college-level teaching or strong potential for teaching excellence
- Strong commitment to student engagement, advising, and professional development
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Terminal degree in Financial Planning, Finance, or a closely related field (strongly preferred); ABDs in advanced dissertation stages will be considered
- Experience coordinating or administering a CFP Board Registered academic program
- Industry experience as a practicing CFP professional
- Experience developing financial planning curriculum at the undergraduate or graduate level
- Active research agenda in financial planning, personal finance, or retirement income planning
