Position Title: Assistant Professor of Veterinary Skills

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in, lead, and contribute to laboratory sessions in veterinary skills curriculum based on experience in small animal emergency medicine and critical care.
- Coordinate preclinical didactic courses (Small Animal Medicine II, Anesthesia) by collaborating with board-certified specialists, managing examinations and grades, and holding office hours.
- Coordinate clinical clerkships (Small Animal Emergency & Critical Care, Anesthesia) by collaborating with clinicians-in-charge at affiliated sites, conducting students rounds, managing grades, and holding office hours.
- Provides veterinary assistance for the Canine Wellness Outreach project and participate in CVM committees and minor research responsibilities.
- Design, implement and deliver specialized course material for the small animal portion of the veterinary skills course that is taught in all 6 preclinical semesters (first, second and third years).
- Develop an elective course in Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) involving both lectures and ECC skills and scenarios.
- Participate in obtaining grants for small animal research.
- Publish small animal research in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
- Educate and serve the small animal owning community.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or a directly related field of study and the following experience:
- 4 years of post-secondary teaching experience in veterinary medicine.
- 4 years of post-secondary teaching experience teaching in veterinary emergency and critical care.
- 3 years of experience in teaching emergency and clinical procedures, including such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), thoracocentesis, nasal insufflation, abdominocentesis, cystocentesis, and intubation using canine cadavers and high-fidelity dog models.
- 3 years of experience in creating and implementing emergency room veterinary skills laboratories.
- 2 years of experience in designing and developing laboratory sessions utilizing Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) models and canine cadavers.
- 2 years of experience teaching and reading Electrocardiography (ECG) tests in veterinary education or clinical settings.
- 2 years of experience in veterinary curricular design and implementation.
- 1 year of experience in participating in initiatives to promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion within an academic or veterinary community.
- 1 year of experience in collaborating with university administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
Experience may be gained concurrently.
SALARY:$130,622.00/year to $165,000.00/year
