The Department of Engineering in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Transportation at South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, South Carolina, is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Mechanical Engineering starting Fall 2026.

Position and Duties

South Carolina State University invites applications for a full-time tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the newly established undergraduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering. The selected candidate will be expected to perform the following functions:

  • Develop and teach courses in the Mechanical Engineering program.
  • Develop and conduct lab experiments in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Conduct research and engage in scholarly activities, including seeking extramural funding.
  • Advise students and supervise student projects.
  • Publish and attend professional meetings.
  • Conduct assessments in accordance with ABET guidelines.
  • Engage in continuous improvement.
  • Engage in service within and outside the university.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field in Engineering prior to the start date.
  • Demonstrated ability or significant potential for teaching excellence.
  • Experience in developing and teaching Mechanical Engineering courses and lab experiments.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

Preference

Special preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in teaching a wide range of courses.
  • Experience in academic planning, curriculum development, and ABET Accreditation matters.
  • History of securing external funding.
  • Proven experience in dealing with a variety of students.
  • Industrial Experience.
